Screening: Raindance's London Shorts Showcase Features Television Centre Film
Showing in Brick Lane next Wednesday, the Big Smoke is a selection of films about London, made in London – a collaboration between Raindance Film Festival and Shorts on Tap.
One of their picks has been made right here in White City. We're excited to announce that a White Noise commission, Hilary Powell's East Tower piece, Multistory, has made the cut.
Powell's film is a radical performance of Ted Hughes' Iron Man. The story's destructive themes play out against the backdrop of the East Tower at Television Centre, the former home of CBBC, in the final months before its demolition. A piece of truly community-centred filmmaking, Multistory's cast encompasses BBC employees, White City residents, construction workers and even local schoolchildren wielding sledgehammers. It's a cathartic, creative and ultimately democratic work. Hughes and Powell both hint that endings can contain the seeds of a new beginning.
Pop down to Brick Lane on Wednesday 3rd May from 7pm for a chance to catch the film. The Big Smoke is part of Shorts On Tap's ROAD MAP, a series of screenings focusing on local culture, each time exploring a different country, region or city of the world.
